I was just wondering... are they still going off regularly in your area?

I'm still hearing loads and I'm so fed up of it, it's November 17th ffs!

I know the chavs will be letting them off from mid-October, and that some people will do them a few days before or after the 5th (though I think anyone who does so on the wrong night is an utter retard) and there was Diwali on Nov 9 but two weeks after the 5th is just taking the piss.

I want to set off in the direction of the noise just to shake those responsible by the throat and shout "why? why are you doing this? WHY!"

It goes without saying that I'm in favour of a total ban on the sale of fireworks to the public (unless they can be made silent.) Proper displays are much better anyway.

no complaints about them ON THE RIGHT NIGHT, or the nearest weekend, but some cretin letting a banger off at 3am is not enjoying "being young", he's a cunt who deserves a kicking.

Apart from the 3 days prior to new years, it's illegal to buy/sell fireworks here.
Obviously this results in illegal fireworks being purchased in Belgium in the months leading up to new years.

That said, it's been surprisingly quiet this year.
What worries me is that it's usually a school night when something does go off. I seriously doubt it's being done by anyone who's of an age that shouldn't be in school the next day.

Kids, be cool. Go to school!
Seriously, trust me on this one.

instead of buying lots of hair perm and chapati flour to make their rucksack bombs, why haven't terrists thought of using a load of firework powder instead?

could you pass the suggestion on as this is probably the only way they'll get banned

Thing is 1-X, they don't want to copy Guy Fawkes. It's an infidel copyright infringement.

By the way, I JUST heard a firework go off.

Still not bothered.

Don't you live on the 44th floor of some tower block?

That's not a firework going off, its next doors radiators playing up again.

They've mostly died down here now actually, usually they just go on and on and on. Halloween is the time they are settting them off around here. Though they just buy them from someone who's gone up to Northern Ireland & bought a shit load.
But now all those fireworks places are closed, so hence it's quiter.

Can you buy them year round in the UK?

I think licensed sellers can sell them all year round, and unlicensed (corner shops etc) only at certain times of the year.

fireworks in general dont bother me, hell, i did my fair share of letting them off as a youngster (god that makes me sound old ) but i never set them off silly late, there were some going off round here at about 10pm the other night, which is annoying when the bairn is in bed, but by the time i had got shoes on to go out and shout at the kids doing it, someone else was telling them off already, which was quite nice

there are lots of laws with quite stiff penalties that outlaw most of what I've complained about, the problem is they're difficult to enforce/police can't be bothered.

under 18's possessing them, and anyone letting them off in public places is breaking the law, also bangers, air-bombs, mini-rockets are banned etc

Ugh, half the fun of a firework display is the noise it creates!

used to have a lot of fun with fireworks, you would of hated me 1-X. . .

had the advantage of being near to forest/miles of fields. . . but i do admit i was that little bastard blowing shit up outside your houses back in the day

we used to buy so many, so cheap. . .probably could of started a war. . .well. . .kind of.

get a load of copper pipes, cut them to five equal lengths, and then one piece about 5 inches longer. . .duct tape them all together in a cylindrical arrangment and bend the long bit down to make a handle. . .put 6 'roman candles' in the end. . .light them all one after the other and use it as a homemade minigun/rpg kind of thing

air bombs were probably my favourite though. . .cheap quick and dirty, plonk them in the ground light the fuse and launch your mortar. . .'nitro blast' type thigns were cool as well, because they were like grenades

rockets in poster tubes over the shoulder. . .open up the rockets and put baggies of petrol, or nitro from the model shop inside next to the gunpowder bit. . .aww memories. . .

Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot...
