Thanks to the willing victims (
) who are going to help me see if this works in forum format. The scene: A known criminal, 1-X, is wanted for his crimes against forums users. He has been accused of never posting a photo of himself on the forums and being too helpful and pleasant to users. He's on the run in London and has to be caught before he escapes completely. On the case are the private detectives roadrunner, Chel, Muzzza, Maladoni and Skragg. To win, these intrepid detectives must LAND on the same spot that 1-X has occupied at that time. If they pass him (or he them) then it does not count and they'll be none the wiser for their close encounter. Unfortunately HM Government can only afford a few public transport tickets for our valiant heroes. They have been issued with a limited number of free transport passes. If they run out of these passes, they lose (see below for details). As a master criminal, 1-X has worked out a way of acquiring ALL used tickets from the detectives (see below for what he starts with). This means that he effectively has an unlimited supply. Movement: 1-X will move on each of his turns (the game will move as fast as activity - including my own - allows) by PMing me. The rest of you can either PM me your instructions or use them in the thread. Remember you don't necessarily need me to update the map each time - if you do then this will mostly take place at night as I won't be doing it at work :P (you will find it easier to refer to the map when reading this bit)
Other Rules
If you want to see these as a manual/similar then you can go to this link to see it. The game is afoot! The detectives have left their offices/homes in search of the mysterious 1-X, who will be revealing himself on turn 3! CURRENT MAP LOCATIONS: Click here to see the map in more detail/enlarged They each set off with the following tickets: roadrunner - 10 taxi, 8 bus, 4 underground Chel - 10 taxi, 8 bus, 4 underground Muzzza - 10 taxi, 8 bus, 4 underground Maladoni - 10 taxi, 8 bus, 4 underground Skragg - 10 taxi, 8 bus, 4 underground 1-X currently has 4 taxi, 4 bus, 3 underground, 2 doubles and 5 black tickets. The game is afoot!

I put you on 13 'cos that's where the bus went. Hope that's ok. If it's not, post your alternate move with your current one. I expect that generally detectives would like to be on underground stations at turn 13?

And I'm completely lost. By the time moves start happening again I've forgotten the last few places 1-X could be, meaning I have to go back, and work it all out again, which becomes added fun when last time we were blocking him from certain routes, and now we've moved those are less obvious.
I'm out.

The concept is too obtuse for me to even consider refereeing

1. delete logan
2. one of the current players makes muzzza's next move (as tk knows where I am) 3. tomkat takes over muzzza from the following turn 4. as compensation for losing a player, we forget about the detective's ticket counts and you can all travel without limits. 5. I'll PM my moves to maladoni, though it will only be for verification purposes and he'll never have to actually do anything. Don't argue, just get on with it ![]() |

Players can have two detectives. When I played it as a board game, we got 2 detectives each if there weren't enough of us.
Seems this game wasn't the success I hoped for!

two detectives each would be good, but it's not something we can switch to midgame (if we kept ticket allocations)
if the first online out of roadie, chel, skragg will post a move for muzzza, we can get the game going again (assuming none of you have any problems with my suggested changes) |

ROUND 12 MAP showing my "revealed" R13 move (by taxi)
Muzzza died, but in his will left money to buy the surviving players free travel. Inspector Tomkat takes his place, that's both his name and his hobby. Logan is suspended, so he's happy. Afaik you have to catch me before r25 to win. click here for the full size map ![]() |

It seems that everyone went uphill.... Instead of spreading so both possible directions could be covered after his previous reveal.
Possibly in future have a forum for the detectives? Similar to the mafias hidden forum, where they can coordinate their activities without the fugitive being able to listen in and second guess them.

and I thought it was going to be so much faster without the reluctant participants

This game needs to be played much faster tbh. An evening when people can be around for a couple of hours, and a real time chat for the detectives to talk their shit over, either a private chatbox or irc, then you might get somewhere.
Playing it on the forum I think people are too used to the mafia pace.

I think the best way to play this efficiently would be for one person to take charge and the others to follow, but of course that's not fun or popular. There have been attempts at co-ordination but they need to box me in and I don't see that happening.
Tomkat is the only one who knows how this goes on a boardgame, obviously it's much faster and I expect the fugitive makes mistakes that I won't when moving one journey a day. They also need more detectives, two per player would give them a much better chance. There have been times, once or twice, when I've had to change my plans due to the position of a detective. One player can cut off many escape routes, though the chances of them accidentally catching me if I am adjacent are quite low. |

This means that 1-X could only have been at one of the stops on the previous go:
82 (unlikely, lots of us around) 102 (again, unlikely) 153 (likely, also an underground stop) 154 (likely) 140 (medium - still a bit close to us) 156 (could be likely but limits him as it's the bottom of the map) 133 (going back into the island? he was trapped before, i dont think he'll go here again) 157 (as above) 127 (far away from us, a possibility) 116 (v.far away but stuck on one side of the map) 108 (as above) 128 (as above) I think he's either gone south west, or he's gone back into the south east. At a guess I'd say south west, so I'll be heading that way. I don't think this game is winnable btw. I'm not sure what makes it fairer in the board game (I haven't played for some time!) but it isn't this ridiculous. Maybe the fact that there isn't any communication between the detectives, or trying to work out where 1-X could be ![]()
