2010's first Photo Mission

I hope Robin will not mind me stealing his thread, but I thought I might have a go at kick starting this years missions.

The rules I have taken from the first ever mission thread, and I am reposting them here for clarity (with some minor edits).

Well, read on then..

Welcome to the first of 2010's photo missions. In this series we will challenge you to pick up a camera and do your best at completing the assignment set out for you.

The missions involve doing your best at making a good photograph. Every new mission includes a specific theme that the photo must match.
The theme could be something tangible, like pets or cars, slightly less straightforward like blue or repetition or even such things as luck or time. It might even be possible that the mission limits you to macro photos only for example.
(Suggestions on themes are always welcome.)

If you choose to accept the mission, you have to go out and take the photo. Anything you made in the past will not do. Take your time to think about the shot you want to make, and if you are satisfied with the results, post it here.
Keep in mind, part of the missions is making a good photograph!

So, why would you bother? Well, apart from having some fun, it's also a chance to get comments from others on your work. Having put some thoughts into your photographs might enhance the overall quality of the pictures. Possibly moving away from just taking snapshots. (Although some of you already passed that stage, you might still enjoy the exercise.)
Of course Groats will be awarded according to thanks received, and the result of the final poll.

Now some of you might be thinking. "But I only have this little compact, how can I compete with somebody using a DSLR?" Well, first of all, it is not a competition with others. You're competing with yourself. Second, there's always things like creativity, composition, and lighting to think about.

One last thing before we kick off with the first mission:
Posting a 6MP image on the forums will get a bit messy, but resizing it might lose some detail or sharpness. In this case, you might want to post a smaller version and link to a full size version.

(If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact your favourite coed.)

Are we all set?

The first mission of the year is:
EMOTIONS

We had a taster of this last year with the valentine themed LOVE mission, so go crazy. (Literally if you want to.)

I hope you enjoy and I'll be interested to see what you come up with, 50,000 shiny groats for the winner will come out of my own stash.

This compo will run for 1 month, ending on Weds 17th March.

you know, I am feeling a little pathy now I've seen that ;)

Beaker 20 Feb 2010 17:28

A short explanation of the emotion would help, or just a title. ;)

Make it easier for me making the poll at the end anyway. :D

Exactly 2 weeks left, and so far we have 1 very good picture on the theme and 1 unknown idea.
:(

Straight in her face... though she didn't notice until it was 'too late'.

Beaker 14 Apr 2010 17:13

Wow, amazing turnout for this one, makes me really glad I started it up.
Thank you for 1-X for taking over after I asked him to though.

1-X 14 Apr 2010 17:20

i've reopened the poll as not many had voted.

I would start another comp (or poke robin to) but the middle of the month doesn't seem like a good time. Maybe we should stop being monthly and just have new comps "as and when"...?

creepandpeep 14 Apr 2010 18:17

maybe have a general one, or perhaps allow older photos as long as you took them. . .I don't know I guess that defeats the object. . . I jsut haven't been able to find the time recently :( I do like them though

Rush^ 16 Apr 2010 12:13

I do like th path photo. It just doesn't fit in with the theme.

Beaker 16 Apr 2010 12:15

It could fit in with the theme if NB bothered to put a title to it. :D

Wiggy 16 Apr 2010 21:02

How about something a bit more artistic. I propose a " sunrise/sunset comp. There has to be some nice red sky pics we could take. Although the dust from the Newcastle trophy cabinet might spoil the view for a while.;)

Beaker 17 Apr 2010 02:29

Set it up then, and I hope you have a better turn out than me.
